More about Janet
I was born and raised in Nashville, TN, where I attended Harpeth Hall School. As a Honeybear, I discovered my love for journalism and writing. I was the Editor-in-Chief of my high school paper, Logos, which won the Best High School Newspaper award from the Tennessee High School Press Association during my senior year.
I attended Bowdoin College, where I earned my bachelor’s degree with honors in History and Government and Legal Studies, along with a minor in Computer Science. I spent four years with the Bowdoin Orient, Bowdoin’s award-winning student newspaper, in various writing and editorial roles. Through the Bowdoin Orient, I also gained professional journalism experience working for Main Street Nashville after my freshman year and the Portland Press Herald after my sophomore year.
Outside the newsroom, I am a dynamic writer and researcher. I have experience writing business research briefs for AlphaSights, a short-term consulting firm that works with investment and consulting clients. During my senior year at Bowdoin, I wrote a research paper of over 75 pages analyzing regional newspaper editorials responding to the truce of the Irish War of Independence.
Beyond the Newsroom
I served as chair of the Bowdoin Conduct Review Board during my senior year at the College, having served on the Board for two years prior. Integrity and fairness are key to how I carry myself through the world, and this position allowed me to help maintain these values at Bowdoin.
I am also a former high school swimmer who found the (arguably superior) sport of water polo in college and fell in love. I was the captain of the Bowdoin co-ed and women’s club water polo teams for three years, building the team from a handful of players to over 20 players of all different experience levels. Building those teams is one of my proudest accomplishments of my college career.
Beyond formal activities, I taught swim lessons to local Brunswick kids, worked at the campus convenience store, and had a brief stint as an “egg artist” in one of the campus dining halls. I also hosted a weekly radio show on WBOR, the campus radio station, called “1001 and Counting,” where I listened chronologically through the 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die edited by Robert Dimery.
During my senior spring, I received the Andrew Allison Haldane Cup from Bowdoin College, having been nominated by my peers. This prize is "awarded to a member of the senior class who displays outstanding qualities of leadership and character."
